Welcome to our Venice photo gallery – Capital of Canals and Cathedrals. Rarely have we seen such a beautiful city with so many ways to get lost. Just as you think you know where you are, you turn a corner and find water and a dead end. It’s not at all bad to get lost in Venice though, as you will always find something new to admire.

The city of red roofs
City on water
Most people don’t realise but Venice is actually a city of 118 islands within the Venetian lagoon. The canals that form the “streets” of the city are actually waterways that separate the individual islands. Linking the islands are more than 400 bridges. Some of these bridges in our Venice photo gallery are famous sites, such as the Bridge of Sighs, or the Rialto Bridge.

The famous Bridge of Sighs
Venice has a rich history of both art and commerce. From the 14th to 17th century, it served as a major trading post due to its location in the Adriatic Sea. As well as being one of the key locations for the Renaissance artists, it also has a long history as a centre for symphonic music.

Such an amazing architecture
Today, Venice faces a number of problems many of which result from it being over-touristed. If you plan to travel to Venice, then either fly in or take the train. Vast cruise ships are causing pollution to the delicate marine ecosystems. Spilling in thousands of tourists for one day at a time means that they contribute little to the local economy.
Things to do in Venice
As you will see from our Venice photo gallery, this city is full of architectural and cultural delights. You can visit historical buildings and monuments, indulge in pizza and prosecco cocktails overlooking the waterways, visit the opera, rent a gondola for a lazy afternoon on the canals, or take a boat out to one of the outlying islands of Murano or Burano. Head on over to Parenthood and Passports blog for a comprehensive list of things to do in Venice to suit all ages.

Our favourite cocktail spot in Venice – Jazz and brassieres
One of the coolest venues you will see in our Venice photo gallery is the Bacaro Jazz bar. Yes, they actually play good jazz music and yes, they have really tasty cocktails. But the main reason to visit this quirky spot is all the bras hanging on the ceiling. They have been left there by the many female patrons over the years and are quite a sight to see!

I I absolutely love this photo gallery guys! It has further sparked my desire to travel to Venice. The Bacaro Jazz sounds very interesting…I have to ask, did Sarah leave her bra there?
Hey Elisa, you should definitely visit Venice – it is stunning! We loved it, although there are a LOT of tourists there these days. Lol, I didn’t leave my bra in the Bacaro jazz, unfortunately I wasn’t carrying a spare one with me 😉 Florence is next on our Italian list, we will visit next year when we go to Italy for my brothers wedding. Thanks for reading! 🙂
Very well done! 🙂
Thank you very much Gloria 🙂 This weekend we’ll go to Porto and we’re so inspired by your article about this cool city!
