The small town of Niagara Falls in Canada was one of our favourite destinations in 2018. We were blown away by the sheer power and beauty of the falls themselves. We were also surprised by things do to in Niagara Falls for couples! All the diverse activities, together with the force of nature that is the falls, made us completely fall in love with this unique destination.

Marvel at the Niagara Falls
Even though a part of Niagara Falls on the Canadian side reminded us more of Las Vegas than a romantic getaway, we had a lot of fun during the two days we stayed in town. Romance doesn’t define itself only by hugs, kisses, and candlelight. It also defines itself by spending some quality time as a couple and just having fun together. That said, if you look for hugs, kisses and candlelight, then we can assure you that there are definitely romantic things to do in Niagara Falls.

You can enjoy Niagara Falls in day and night
In this post, we want to present to you the best things to do in Niagara Falls for couples and how you can spend the time of your life in the hometown of some of the most famous waterfalls in the world. Of course, you can do all those activities also on your own. However, if you’re visiting together, what better than to share these precious and romantic Niagara Falls moments with your special one?
Stand Side by Side on a Boat and Get Drenched in the Refreshing Mist
This is probably one of the most impressive things to do on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. Board one of the boats that will take you up-close to the three waterfalls of Niagara Falls. The Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls are waiting for you. On the 20-minute long spectacular ride, you will get so close to the falls, that you’ll feel the mist on your skin. Hear the thundering roar of more than 2.2 million litres (600’000 gallons) water per second falling into the deep.

Get up-close with the Niagara Falls and your special one
In high season, the boats sail every 15 minutes. On board, you can find full washroom facilities and seating within sheltered areas. If you don’t want to stand in a queue to get a ticket for one of the best attractions in Niagara Falls, then we recommend you to get a “Skip the ticket line”-Ticket. This ticket also includes a free plastic poncho, the elevator ride to the landing dock and access to the exclusive Riverside Patio. A little tip – make sure you have your valuables in a waterproof bag, they might end up quite wet otherwise.
Share the Great Views from the Skywheel Together
If you always wanted to see Niagara Falls from above, but you can’t afford a helicopter ride, then this is the perfect activity for you and your loved one. Sit together in one of the fully enclosed and climate-controlled gondolas. Soak in the views from a hight of more than 50 meters (175 feet). From up there you can marvel at the falls. Furthermore, you’ll be able to see other great Niagara Falls attractions like the Dinosaur Minigolf or the Skylon Tower.

Enjoy together the unique views from the SkyWheel
A ride normally takes 8 to 12 minutes and you’ll go around the wheel several times. The SkyWheel runs day and night. Inside the gondolas, you have the option to listen to audio narration. By doing this, you’ll learn more about Niagara Falls and how the SkyWheel was made. We enjoyed the ride more than we first thought and really recommend this experience. You can book the ticket in Niagara Falls or skip the ticket booking line on-site and book your ticket already online.
Experience All the Fun of the Fair at Clifton Hill
One of the best things to do in Niagara Falls for couples who don’t take themselves too seriously is to have some fun at Clifton Hill. This part of Niagara Falls is something of a cross between Las Vegas and an amusement park. While it might be targeting families, I can assure you that you can have at least as much fun, if not even more, as a couple.

Golfing with Dinosaurs in Clifton Hill
Ride the SkyWheel, face zombies in a multi-sensory adventure featuring 6D graphics or play a round of golf with dinosaurs or wizards. How about a visit to a wax museum or the Great Canadian Midway? No matter what you decide to do, you can have a truly great time together at Clifton Hill. If you plan to do several Niagara Falls activities here, then you should have a look at the Fun Pass. With this pass, you can save up to 45% on admission fees!
Feel Hopelessly Romantic at the Night Lights Tour with Dinner & Cruise
How romantic would it be to light up Niagara Falls? This sounds pretty badass romantic if you ask us and with the Night Lights Tour, you can do exactly that.

If that’s not the perfect mood for a romantic evening …
After a luxurious dinner at the Elements of the Fall restaurant, where you have fantastic views over the Niagara Falls, you head over to the Illumination Tower. There you can not only watch as the lights that brighten up the night are turned on in real time but you actually can take full control of the lights that appear around the Falls.
Later on, you’ll take a boat trip to the base of the illuminated falls, where you might see a fantastic firework display. We don’t know about you, but we think that this is the base for a perfect romantic evening or an ultimate Niagara Falls honeymoon.
Niagara Falls Helicopter Flight
Have you ever wanted to see the majesty of Niagara Falls from above? Then this is the perfect Niagara couple activity for you. A minimum of two people per booking is required to take one of these spectacular flights. This requirement makes it a perfect activity for couples or friends. It’s also one of the best things to do in Niagara Falls in winter when you can see the whole region covered in snow and ice.

This is definitely an experience you want to share with your special one. Make sure you also don’t forget your travel camera to keep the unique views forever on a picture.
Niagara Falls Walking Food Tour
Maybe you’ve heard the old saying: “The way to the heart is through the stomach”. Because of this, we want to show you one of the greatest things to do in Niagara Falls for couples who are also foodies: A Niagara Falls food tour during the summer months.

The three-hour walking food and history tour in Niagara Falls will teach you more about the area. You’ll learn more about the delicious food of the region and hear historic stories of daredevils and wonderful people. On the way, you will stop at 4-6 places for tastings of contemporary takes on the foods that Canadians love. Vegetarian options are available. As foodies ourselves, we think it’s definitely one of the fun things to do in Niagara Falls Canada. If you want to learn more about Canadian food, then read this great article about the national dishes of Canada.
Niagara-On-The-Lake Wine and Local Cheese Tasting Tour
We were surprised to learn that Niagara is on the same latitude as many of the famous European wine growing regions. For that reason, Niagara Falls is not only home to the spectacular waterfalls but also the largest viticulture area of Canada. Here, more than 60 wineries produce nearly 80% of Canadian’s growing volume of grapes. Because of this, it is not surprising that you can also do a fabulous wine tasting tour in Niagara on the Lake.

On a 3.5 hour long tour, you will discover the latest sustainable wine-making processes. Enjoy a diverse selection of locally produced cheeses and sample a total of 12-14 wines in three to four wineries. Raise a glass with your partner and let the good times roll.
And by the way, if you like beer more than wine, then you should definitely visit the Niagara Brewing Company in Clifton Hill. Their craft beer tastes absolutely fantastic, especially the Niagara Premium Lager and the Honeymoon Peach Radler.

Great post Tom! We visited at the start of 2017, in January, it was freezing but so beautiful. Have to say that we would love to see the falls all lit up or even better take the helicopter ride 🙂 You’ve got some really awesome suggestions in here, makes us want to go back!
