One highlight of our travels around the world was to visit the majestic Taj Mahal in Agra. While it was a great experience to visit the Taj, with the benefit of hindsight, we wouldn’t do it independently. Rather, we’d book a Taj Mahal Sunrise Tour from Delhi. We have several reasons for this which we will explain in this post.
Reason #1 to book a Taj Mahal Sunrise tour from Delhi: You’ll see one of the New 7 Wonders of the World: The Taj Mahal.
If you have the opportunity to visit the Taj Mahal, then you absolutely should do so. Even though it is one of the most touristed places I’ve ever seen in the world, it’s more than worth battling a crowd to see it. The feeling you get when you actually see the Taj Mahal live in front of you is indescribable. It’s not just a nice building. No, it’s a magnificent structure that manages to emotionally touch you and leave you in awe. I assure you that once you’re there, you’ll stand in front of the Taj Mahal wide-eyed in amazement. This is the effect the most famous mausoleum in the world normally has on people.

Reason Nr 2 to book a Taj Mahal Sunrise Tour from Delhi: You’ll be there early enough to marvel at the sunrise over the Taj Mahal.
With some tours, you’ll only get to the Taj Mahal when the sun is already high in the sky. This is bad because of two reasons. First, you’ll miss out on the beautiful morning sun that covers the Taj Mahal in various different shades of orange, yellow and red. It’s the best light of the day to take some breathtaking pictures. Second, you’ll miss the opportunity to visit the Taj when there are not many people there yet. Later in the day, the Taj Mahal becomes far more crowded.

The early morning light offers some great photo opportunities!
Again, if you want to take some great pictures, it’s better when there aren’t too many people in the frame. The only thing is, that the Taj Mahal Tour from Delhi starts at 3am in the morning. This might sound super early, but then again, only the early bird catches the worm.

Reason Nr 3 to book a Taj Mahal Sunrise Tour from Delhi: You’ll get an included live guide.
While we love to explore places by ourselves, we know that we often miss out on helpful information. With a guide, you’ll always have a chance to ask questions and get useful information. It’s not only the facts and the history about the place itself you’ll learn but also stories and anecdotes from the people, traditions, and surroundings. A good guide can always transform a nice experience into a fantastic one. With our recommended same day Taj Mahal tour by car, you get a great live guide included.

Make sure also to visit the Kau Ban Mosque just next to the Taj Mahal
Reason Nr 4 to book a Taj Mahal Sunrise Tour from Delhi: You’ll travel in a comfortable and private car with air-con.
Having travelled around India for two months with trains, rickshaws and taxis, we know what hassle it can be to get from point A to B. When you book a Taj Mahal day tour from Delhi you’ll get spared by all this hassle. No one will try to rip you off, overcharge you or take you to the wrong place. Instead, you can relax in an air-conditioned car and enjoy the ride.
Reason Nr 5 to book a Taj Mahal Sunrise Tour from Delhi: You don’t have to stay in Agra.
Agra is not a pretty city and aside from the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort, there is not much to see there for tourists. Although there are plenty of touts like rickshaw drivers waiting to get you into a shop with a one-time only, limited edition “special offer”. Be warned – what you’ll find is really just overpriced tourist tat on which they’ll earn commission from the shop owner once you’ve been bullied into buying by aggressive salespeople giving you the hard sell.
Based on our experience and specially if you’re on a tight time schedule, then we don’t recommend spending any time in Agra beyond the Taj if you can avoid it. When you book a Delhi to Taj Mahal day trip, you’ll get picked up and dropped off in Delhi. It’s a long day, but you’ll save a full day for other activities in the end. This is perfect to explore more of beautiful India, like for example Jaipur or Udaipur in Rajasthan, or Delhi itself.
