Freiburg im Breisgau is conveniently close to where we live at the moment. Because of that we love to go there on a day trip every now and then. The old town is quite romantic and there are artificially created and water-filled channels (Bächle) running along the streets. They are supplied with water by the river Dreisam and they once served as a water supply, particularly for fighting fires. Today they are loved by tourists and children alike and are a welcome source of refreshment for hot feet in summer.
One of the things we really love about Freiburg are also the many mosaics you can find on the ground in the old town. Some of them are just decorative while others show what’s in the building behind them. We can definitely recommend a visit to Freiburg, especially in summer when you can sit outside and enjoy the Bächle, the sun and a cold beverage. Secret tip at the end: Try to visit the fantastic Markthalle! It is an old market hall that now serves as a kind of permanent street food hall. You’ll get amazing food from all over the world for an affordable price.
